Charlie’s Challenge was established in 1993, the inspiration behind it’s formation is Charlie Boutwood, who then aged 20 months, was diagnosed as having a malignant brain tumour. Charlie was rushed from Sussex to a London hospital in July 1993 for emergency brain surgery which lasted 8 hours. Because of the tumour’s location only 2/4 was removed and so followed a testing year of intense chemotherapy followed by 6 weeks of radiotherapy.
Against all odds he has made a remarkable recovery and is now enjoying life to the full, which in itself is a great inspiration to us all to help other sufferers.
Today Charlie’s Challenge is helping to fund research projects into the causes of the invasive nature of the brain tumour.
