Dogs and Owners raise £7,000 for Mayor’s Cancer Charity

13th April, 2013

Over 250 dogs and their owners braved rain and wind last Saturday 13 April to raise £7,000 for the Brain Tumour Research Campaign and the Magic Wand Appeal.

Star of the show was a black Labrador, Tinto, who carried off the coveted accolade of ‘Best in show’ which took place at Dovehouse Green, King’s Road, SW3.

Celebrity judges included broadcaster Johnny Maitland, co-presenter of BBC Radio London’s Barking at the Moon Anna Webb, dog coach Vicki Karn, Cremorne Ward Councillor Gerard Hargreaves, actor Honor Blackman and singer and former X Factor mentor Sinitta, who were on hand to help judge 15 classes which ranged from ‘Cutest puppy’ to ‘My dog has talent’.

Alicia Forsyth-Forrest is running in the London Marathon to raise funds for the Magic Wand Appeal

21st April, 2013

Motivated to run in this year’s Virgin London Marathon because a family member is suffering from a brain tumour, Alicia was shocked to discover that brain tumours are the biggest cancer killers of children and adults under forty and have one of the lowest survival rates of all cancers.

She wanted to support her family’s personal links with BTRC and the Mayor of Kensington & Chelsea’s Magic Wand Appeal, helping to raise funds towards a Sono Wand which is a ground-breaking surgical tool that converts pre-operative MRI scans into a virtual reconstruction of the brain, enabling surgeons to operate more accurately.

“For me this run will be a real test of determination, stamina and a personal ambition. It is not only an opportunity for me to push myself physically, I also aim to raise over £5,000 to be shared between BTRC and the Brain Research Trust” says Alicia.

Alicia will only just have reached her 18th birthday when she runs – and will be one of the youngest runners ever in the London Marathon.   Please help her achieve her goal and make a donation, however small, to http://www.justgiving.com/aliciaforsyth-forrest

Go on… Wear a Hat for Charity on Thursday, 28th March, 2013!

Thursday, 28th March, 2013

March is Brain Tumour Awareness Month and on the 28th March 2013, BTRC and its fellow Brain Tumour Research member charities are encouraging everyone to wear a hat and make a donation in aid of our annual ‘Wear a Hat Day’.

Simply ask everyone you know to wear a hat and make a donation to the cause.

You can download more information here.

Remember brain tumour research receives less than 1% of national cancer research spending in the UK yet this deadly disease kills more children and people under the age of 40 than any other cancer.

Thank, you for your support!
