The BTRC have kindly agreed to donate all funds raised by this walk towards funding a PhD research project into gliomas, the particular type of brain tumour suffered by Alistair.

Ways you can help BTRC raise funds:

Support us:
make a donation or regular gift

Raise money:
your own fundraising facility

Remember a loved one:
create your own In Memoriam area

We love writing about the fun events that people organise to support us, but a lot of the money we receive comes from people who donate money in memory of lost loved ones - we receive an astonishing amount each year, sometimes anonymously, sometimes just a few pounds. So although we can't name them all, we thank everyone who has sent us whatever they can in memory of a lost friend, colleague or family member.

Sponsored Skydive at Headcorn Airfield

Saturday, 28th June 2008

jump

My name is Miranda Murphy I am 26 years old and I recently lost my mum to a Glioblastoma Multiforme brain tumour.  Like many of us I'd never heard of such cancer and I certainly didn't think it would happen to someone so close to me. You often listen to other people's stories and feel deeply sorry for them but deep down you are relieved as you never think anything like that would ever happen to you.. but it does and that is why I want to raise awareness for Brain Tumour Research Campaign as not enough people are aware just how common brain tumours are.  When my mum passed away I thought my world had ended because she was my world and best friend, then I realised how selfish I was being, I remembered how strong my mum was throughout the year she was fighting cancer and here I was moping around, that's when I knew I had to and wanted to do something about it.  As much as I wanted to scream from the roof tops to raise awareness about brain tumours Ii didn't think the police would appreciate it so Ii decided to do a sky dive for charity instead.  I will be jumping from a height of 10-13,000ft on Saturday the 28th June at Headcorn Airfield.

If you want to help Miranda and sponsor her, please send a cheque (made out to BTRC) to her at
Addison Corporate Marketing, 2 Cathedral Street, London, SE1 9DE (or directly to BTRC stating that it is for Miranda)

Tandem Parachute Jump

Sunday, 31st August 2008

para_jump

Anna Lampard will be doing a tandem parachute jump at Redlands Airfield in Wiltshire on behalf of Brain Tumour UK and The Brain Tumour Research Campaign - 2 fantastic causes who use all money raised to fund research into treatments to help people like her mother, who was diagnosed as having 8 brain tumours in 1998. Thanks to some very skilled doctors, she has made a very good recovery. Anna is very grateful that she is still here and would like to help charities like ours to raise public awareness.

Feel free to give as much or as little as you like, every little helps! Anna has already raised £600 for BTRC, so please help her raise her total even further.

You can sponsor her via this link:

Corner shop dash to half-marathon feat

postponed, but to be rescheduled
(originally to be held in Sept. 2007)

Charlotte Worker

Charlotte Worker

Charlotte Worker is hoping to raise £3000 for the BTRC by running the New Forest half-marathon in September, in memory of Tara Dyson. Having only previously run as far as the corner shop, the race is certainly going to be a challenge! Charlotte explains why she’s decided to put herself through a 13-mile ordeal:

"Last March, my good friend Tara Dyson died from a brain tumour at 39 years old. Tara was an inspiration for me – she had been my manager at a previous workplace and I really admired everything she had achieved within her career. She was also a real character, and advocated living life to the max! After she was diagnosed, Tara became frustrated about how little was known of the disease and its treatment, but was encouraged by the great work of the BTRC.

I decided I'd try to raise some money for the BTRC by doing something I knew would be an uphill struggle (literally!) – running a half-marathon. The last 6 months have been about shedding a few kilos, daily workouts and ending my love affair with nicotine, in the hope of reaching the finishing line with lungs and limbs in place! It's now 6 weeks to go and, with 4 miles my record so far, there's a lot more to do (tips are welcome!). But, remembering Tara's view on life ("Just do it!"), as opposed to jogging ("It's a bit daft!"), I'm determined to get there.

My goal is to raise £3000, and I would be very grateful to anyone who would like to support me via my fundraising page at www.justgiving.com/fortara. Thank you in advance."
